What Nassau Tax Buddy Is

Nassau Tax Buddy is a Chrome extension that guides you through filing a property tax grievance on Nassau County's AROW (Assessment Review on the Web) system. It runs entirely in your browser.

Information You Provide

Nassau Tax Buddy collects the following information when you use the extension:

• Email address. When you enter your email in the extension, it is sent to Nassau Tax Buddy's servers. We use it to follow up about your grievance, send reminders, and notify you of important updates. We will never sell your email or use it for advertising.
• Feedback and NPS score. After filing, you may optionally submit a star rating and Net Promoter Score (NPS). If you do, your rating, score, and associated email are sent to our servers. This is entirely optional.
• Usage events. The extension sends anonymized event timestamps to Nassau Tax Buddy's servers at key points in the filing process (for example, when you sign in to AROW or complete registration). Each ping includes your email address if you've provided one, your payment token, an anonymous install ID, and a timestamp. These are used solely to understand how the product is being used and to improve it.

Payment Information

If you purchase Nassau Tax Buddy, payment is processed by Stripe. Nassau Tax Buddy does not see or store your credit card number or billing details. Stripe is an independent service governed by its own privacy policy.

Data We Do Not Collect

• No analytics or tracking. We do not use Google Analytics, pixels, or any behavioral tracking scripts.
• No cookies. The extension does not set any cookies.
• No intentional IP logging. We do not intentionally log or store IP addresses. Standard web server access logs may retain connection data briefly as part of normal server operation.

Data Stored Locally

The extension uses your browser's localStorage on the nassaucountyny.gov domain to save your progress as you work through the AROW wizard. This may include:

• Your email address and property address
• Your current step in the process
• Assessment values and calculations scraped from the AROW page
• An anonymous install ID (arowBuddy_installId) — a randomly generated identifier created on first use. It is not tied to your identity and persists across sessions to help us understand usage patterns. It is not cleared by "Not you?" since it contains no personal information.

This data stays in your browser. You can clear your progress at any time by clicking "Not you?" in the extension sidebar, or by clearing your browser's site data for nassaucountyny.gov.

Google Places API

The extension uses the Google Places Autocomplete API to help you enter your property address. When you type an address, your keystrokes are sent to Google's servers to provide suggestions. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. No address data is sent to Nassau Tax Buddy's servers via this feature.

Third-Party Services

The extension interacts with:

• nassaucountyny.gov — the official AROW site where you file your grievance (not operated by us)
• nassautaxbuddy.com — our server, used to store email registrations, feedback, and serve a static configuration file (tax rates and deadlines)
• Google Places API — for address autocomplete (see above)
• Stripe — for payment processing (if applicable)

Children's Privacy

Nassau Tax Buddy is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. For significant changes, we will do our best to notify you through the extension itself.
